There are numerous models and designs of furniture casters. Depending on the style of your cabinets or the type of surface where they will be installed, you will need one specific type or another. Below, we will review the different caster options available to help you identify the one that best suits your furniture. Don't hesitate to consult our catalog of furniture casters if you need to get started on your project as soon as possible.
Wheels with 360º rotation option
Furniture wheels are usually used to facilitate movement . They can be seen installed anywhere, such as metal structures, cabinets, scaffolding, wheelbarrows, pallets, carts, etc. Therefore, the better the wheels , the bearings and the greater their angle of rotation, the smoother and more comfortable the movement will be . Let's see the types of 360º rotating wheels that exist:
Wheels with plate
Plated casters, as you can see in the image, are casters that are installed directly using lag bolts on the bottom of the furniture . The furniture rests on the plate and lag bolts are fixed to each corner of the plate. Thanks to this plate system attached to the wheel with a ball bearing system , the rotation offered is 360º, allowing you to freely move any product on which it is placed. These casters have a brake option in case you need to keep the furniture fixed in a specific point.
Since the installation method is smooth , it must always be placed in a flat place where lag screws can be inserted and secured securely.
Wheels with rod
Casters with a rod are a type of wheel that is installed by means of a thread hooking onto a nut , just like screws. Normally, these wheels are made of nylon (or plastic) and are fixed to furniture that already has the nut incorporated into the lower part of it. However, if this is not the case , this wheel can also be installed with a washer and a nut (purchased separately). The rod would go through the lower board of the furniture and we would tighten the nut from the inside of the furniture.
Wheels with spike
Casters with a spigot are most commonly found on chairs and trolleys . These wheels are inserted into a hole and click into place on the base, remaining fixed there. The way to remove them is by applying pressure outwards and installing these wheels is very simple. However, you should make sure that the size of the hole where the wheel is inserted is appropriate for the type of wheel you want to install.
Wheels with eye
We call wheels with eye to the wheels with 360º rotation that are installed with a screw or lag bolt that is not included in the base (as happens with wheels with rod). These wheels are ideal for tables, chairs or furniture that do not have a wide base (as happens with cabinets) to carry out the installation. Its mechanism works the same as in the rest of the wheels with rotation.

Fixed wheels (no swivel option)
Finally, there are fixed wheels . These can be large or small, but their mechanism is simple and consists of just a plate and the wheel itself. They do not allow for a 360º rotation , so turning is much more complicated if only this type of wheel is installed. Normally, they are installed by combining swivel wheels with fixed wheels so that mobility and control are greater ( as happens in cars, for example). This is usually used in storage carts or small “vehicles” for transporting materials.
