Concealed guides, also known as box guides , are always the best solution when we want the project we are doing to be well finished and at the same time a clean project . In general, they are high-quality guides that offer a smooth and subtle drawer opening system using bearings. In addition, the great advantage of these guides is that they are not visible to the naked eye since they are installed in the lower part of the drawer, which makes any project an elegant interior design work .
Let's see the steps you must follow to install hidden guides in your drawers.
How to install hidden guides in your drawers step by step
1. Each hidden guide consists of two pieces : the guide and a plastic piece that will be fixed in each lower corner of the drawer, right at the bottom. The first thing you should do is place the two plastic pieces just below both corners and secure them using lag screws . The guide will then be attached to these pieces using a click system . The guides will also be removed by pressing the triggers shown in the image.
2. Once both pieces of plastic have been placed in the position indicated in the image above, you must make two openings at the bottom on each side of the drawer where the guide will pass through. Below is an image that shows what we mean. It is important that the gap is 1-3 mm wider than the extendable arm of the guide so that it fits without any problem.
3. Now you must proceed to install the metal guide on the wall inside the cabinet . Always pay special attention to ensure that the two guides are installed at the same height and, if installing several drawers, leave enough distance for them to fit, taking into account that the front part will be higher and wider than the rest. The way to install the guides will be by means of lag screws .
In the case of the image, the front of the drawer will be embedded in the cabinet and that is why the guide is not fixed flush with the edge but 15mm inwards.
4. Next, you need to make a hole just above the gap made in step 2. All concealed guides have a raised tab on the back that acts as a stop so that the guide holds the drawer in place when opening and closing from the back.
5. Once the hole in the back is made, there is only one thing left to do: place the drawer on top of the guides and slide it all the way back until it stops against the tab and the front part of the guides engages with the plastic piece that was installed in step #1.
With this you should have the hidden guides ready to use and the drawer mounted in your wardrobe. If you want to start with your DIY projects, here is our catalogue of hidden guides for furniture .
