As we have seen in the previous article , there are several types of sliding guides for drawers , depending on the characteristics you want to achieve, you will need one or the other. Once you are clear about which one you need , we will see how to install them in your furniture and cabinets, thus completing your DIY project. Although generally the way to install the guides is similar , consisting of screwing one part to the sides of the furniture and the other to the sides of the drawer, we will see how to install any sliding guide step by step .

General steps for installing drawer guides

Generally, to install most drawer guides you will only need to follow these steps:

1. The guides are always sold in pairs and each guide has two parts: one that goes on the inside of the cabinet and another that goes on the outside of the drawer . Fix the two guides to the inside of the cabinet using lag screws . To do this, the guide must be open so that the holes where the lag screws are to be fixed to the cabinet are visible.

Note : Both guides must be at the same height, so we recommend that you take careful measurements of where you are going to fix them and also use a level so that the installation is perfectly placed horizontally .

2. Once the guides have been fixed to the furniture, it is time to fix the drawer . To do this, open the guides, place the drawer between both open guides and in the central part of the side of the drawer screw the part of the guide that is sticking out of the furniture. If you want to make a chest of drawers you will have to take measurements so that all the drawers fit.

Also, the width of the drawer must take into account that the guides have a certain thickness and go from side to side of the cabinet, thus being adjusted and being able to screw it to both guides.

Placing the drawer on the guides

3. Finally, you will need to place the outer cover and the handle on each drawer . From the outside, the guides would be visible , so the front of the cabinet must have a piece that decorates the drawer, covers the guides on the front and where the handle can be installed to open and close the drawer.

Just as the drawer will not have the full width of the furniture , this front part will complete the work of the furniture with all its drawers ready to start organizing your utensils.
