Learn how to install a crutch on your doors
Locks are fittings that are installed on standard door handles and are used to block the opening of the door . They are usually installed on bathroom doors, thus offering a certain amount of privacy. They must match the handle, since they are placed right at the bottom and the distance between the axis of the handle and the axis of the lock/bolt can be either 47 or 70 mm .
We will see step by step how to install a lock together with a handle with a rosette . Then we will explain step by step how to choose and install a toggle on a handle with a plate .
How to install a lock on your doors?
Step #1. Have a clear idea of the wheelbase
When you are going to install a lock, you should check that your latch is a unified latch with one axis to insert the handle axis and another axis to insert the square of the toggle or lock. The distance at which they are usually located is either 47mm or 70mm. Be sure of this distance to make a hole in the door with a drill.
Step #2. Decide on the diameter, color and type of crutch or sentence
Once you have the distance clear, you will know that: if the distance is 47mm you should choose a 35mm diameter lock so that it does not rub against the handle, but, if the distance is 70mm between axes, you can install a 50 or 35mm lock . Also, try to choose a lock with the same colour as the handle and with an identical shape: either round or square.
Step #3. Once the lock has been chosen and the hole made, insert the side of the lock that goes on the outside of the door.
Place the part of the exterior rosette that goes on the outside of the door , insert the lock square to hold the lock in place and screw the abutment to the door.
Note: According to European regulations, all locks sold today must have an external opening mechanism. This must be able to be opened with a screwdriver, a coin or any item that fits into the security slot. This way, in case of emergency, you can unlock the door. If your door only has a lock on one side, you will only need to make a hole in the door on the opposite side (at the same height) and install a modern security lock.
Step #4. Place the door trim on the outside
Step #5. On the inside of the door, screw the rosette of the toggle and fix the toggle on the square, securing it with a grub screw.
Place the rosette on the square, insert the lock and screw the base to the door . Once screwed in, it is important to tighten the lock on both sides so that it fits the width of the door and once adjusted, tighten the grub screw located at the bottom of the lock.
Once you have pressed the prisoner, the sentence will be in place and you will only have to place the trim on top and enjoy the privacy you now have in your home.
This is what a 35mm lock will look like in conjunction with a round rosette handle in satin nickel.
You have already seen that installing a lock for a bathroom door is simple and choosing and installing the handle is also easy to do. Find the locks you need to increase the privacy of your doors at the best price.
Also, if you want to install a crutch for a handle with a plate, we explain how to do it below.
Install a crutch on your handles with a plate
The toggle for a plate works very similarly to the lock for a handle with a lock . The difference is that in the rosette the handle is placed separately on one side and the lock on the other side, and in the handles with a plate a hole is made in the plate and the toggle is embedded in the plate.
To do this, you must select the handle you like and then add the distance at which you want us to make the hole in the plate (same as in the rosettes) to the product: either distance 47 or distance 70mm . We make the hole in both plates , that is, in the set of handles.
